Competing in teams of two,\u00a0<\/span>298 athletes<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>rom\u00a0<\/span>23 countries<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>started at dawn to face the challenging\u00a0<\/span>36 km\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>to an\u00a0<\/span>altitude<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>4,554m<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>with a jaw-dropping\u00a0<\/span>7,000m<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>vertical ascent and descent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The winning team from\u00a0<\/span>Italy<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>Franco Coll\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Tadei Pivk\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>who placed second last year, closed with an incredible performance in\u00a0<\/span>5h11\u201935\u201d<\/strong>. Coll\u00e9 set the record with\u00a0<\/span>William Boffelli\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>here in\u00a02018\u00a0in\u00a04h39\u201959\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>over the original course. Due to climate conditions over the last few months, the snow level was seriously diminished and the course had to be redesigned to avoid the steep couloir at 3,200m which proved to be too dangerous for the event, amounting to an increase of one kilometre distance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great adventure and it was great to share it with a friend, rather than just a team mate,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/em>said Coll\u00e9.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cLast year we came just for the fun, but this time Tadei was on top form. After fighting to overtake leaders Antionioli and Bonaldi at the summit, Tadei convinced me to push on the descent. We knew we were strong on the downhill and we decided to give it our all.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>While an emotional Pivk stated, \u201cI have to thank Franco for convincing me to do this race. He\u2019s been with me on many difficult occasions and after several years off running, he convinced me to return. We were aiming for a top-five place and winning is incredible and very special.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The women\u2019s win was a welcome surprise with a mixed team with\u00a0<\/span>Austrian<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Stephanie Kr\u00f6ll<\/strong>, representing race sponsor\u00a0<\/span>SCARPA<\/strong>, and\u00a0<\/span>Karina Carsolio\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>from\u00a0<\/span>Mexico<\/strong>, who closed in\u00a0<\/span>6h43\u201931<\/strong>\u201d- despite Carsolio suffering an injury on the downhill. \u201cThis is an amazing race \u2013 a real<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>skyrunning race! It was incredible being up there and it was great to share this with Stephanie. Each one of us had our moments and we pushed each other in the hard parts. We kept talking to encourage each other,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/em>she commented.<\/p>\n

American Hillary Gerardi<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>who won the first edition of the relaunch in 2018 and the\u00a0<\/span>AMA VK2<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>in 2021, was back with a second place with\u00a0<\/span>French<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>partner\u00a0<\/span>C\u00e9lia Chiron<\/strong>. She had this to say: \u201cWhew! This was a tough one! It was so difficult to be on the podium today. After starting well, at one point in the downhill we were in fourth. That\u2019s when C\u00e9lia looked at me and told me to push. And we did! Congratulations to Stephanie and Karina for an amazing race and congratulations to the whole organization: despite the difficult situation we felt really safe on the glacier.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
